12th Street Riot (Detroit, 1967)

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on July 9th, 2008

Beginning with a sting operation on a “blind pig” or speakeasy on a Sunday July 23rd, 1967. At the end of five days, more than 7200 were arrested, 1200 injured, and 43 dead.

The more things change…

All We Are Saying…

Protesters tear-gassed several times in Tacoma while opposing shipments of military equipment to Iraq. Confrontations had happened all night long between protesters and riot police. As you can see here, the police decided to gas everyone while they sang “Give Peace A Chance.”

The point of my posting this video is to showcase the police’s use of force to those who are peacefully dissenting.  I actually do not agree with the protester’s choice of target but I disagree with the police MORE.  Capice?

Sesame Street Nostalgia

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on May 24th, 2008

Did you know that’s Grace Slick on vocals in the video above?  It’s a band called Jazzy Spies.  There’s a whole series of these numbering 1 through 10.  Here’s another:

The above vid on the letter “a” might be my favorite.  I like that they “cleaned up after themselves.”

I think the above vid is the same fellow(s) that did “lower-case n.”  One thing these old 70’s cartoons have in common that you don’t find in today’s ‘toons?   Pathos!

.

This next one is for my dear sister because it used to scare her silly when she was a child.  I’d bet that it still freaks her out to this day and she’s an old woman!

Syntrillium’s Wind Chimes

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on March 16th, 2008

In a spasm of nostalgia, I loaded one of my old re-writable CDs made 10 years ago and discovered to my surprise a little piece of shareware that I always liked. It’s called Wind Chimes and it was made by Syntrillium in 1996.

In fact, I discovered Syntrillium back when shareware was traded by mail (yes, United States Postal Service mail). And they’re the ones behind Cool Edit Pro, which was the software I used on more than a few audio projects. In 2003, they were bought by Adobe but not before I purchased their terrific remote control, called the Red Rover.

Anyway, Wind Chimes is a zen-flavored utility that faithfully recreates the sound of…uhh…wind chimes.

I’ve decided to totally break the user agreement and make it available for free here. The registration code is KYBWW. It totally works (for me) with Windows XP, so there should be no worries but please install this program at your own risk.

Enjoy.

Shameless Self-Promotion

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on December 18th, 2007

Greetings, visitor!

What better stocking stuffer could your loved ones receive than an independently-produced collection of music? That’s why we here at the Mollify Cocktail Lounge recommend that you support your local musicians!

Not only are physical CDs available on, say, CD Baby, but digital downloads are now on iTunes, about which, as I understand it, the kids get all worked into a lather! A rich, foamy lather!

So do your part to say “NO” to corporate-sponsored taffy that passes as music. Say “YES” to independently-produced taff..er…music!

Merry X-mas from the entire staff here at the MCL!
