My avoidance of the new Star Wars film is going well. Not from a lack of people trying to convince me, though. Even my man Roger Ebert, whom I have a deep respect for, says this film is easily the best amongst the first three films. Hey, how difficult a task is that, really? In his review, he also says that dialogue continues to be the weak point in these prequels, that the characters speak in “basic English,” without color or wit. I also read in another interview that Lucas far and away prefers the delights of post-production to principle photography. So there probably weren’t too many takes per scene then, correct?
“CUT! Yeah, yeah…that’s good enough. Let’s get these people into their new costumes and plop them in front of the blue screen and they can say their lines. C’mon, c’mon, quickly, quickly!”
In a Wired story, iPod users with Windows machines have been given a way out of having to use iTunes to transfer songs to their trusty music devices.
Give someone a restriction and it’s only a matter of time before someone finds a way to circumvent it. I’ve been a WinAmp user for years; it’s been the staple of my “Music Machine” since I’ve had one. Of course, Apple will surely fight back since this circumvention means, to them, lost revenue.

The jig is up, Anna Ayala. You’re busted, bitch.
What’s the psychology of these sort of people? Do they just not want to work for a living or what? It’s got to be more complex than that but I’m really glad the truth finally came out.

Another poor sad sack story…Dennis Miller’s CNBC show is being cancelled due to poor ratings.
I’ve seen his HBO show many times and he always struck me as a guy who really really enjoyed his own material, in many cases at the expense of his audience. He was portentous and generally really full of himself. But he was often funny too.
Ah well, I guess he can continue to do NetZero ads (giggle giggle).
Awww. Poor Bill Gates is pouting over the phenomenal sucess of the iPod music player from longtime rivals Apple Computer.
In the story, Gates says that parallels can be drawn between operating system software and portable music devices. Of course, Gates has never sucessfully predicted anything. In fact, the original printing of Gates’ book “The Road Ahead” in 1995 did not contain anything about the internet. You can’t even find the word “internet” in that first printing. And it’s common knowledge that Gates stole the graphical user interface from Apple (who took it from Xerox). So Steve Jobs and Apple are the innovators. Gates is the more successful copycat. I think the iPod will do just fine.

I’ve said many times in the past that I’ll continue to buy CDs in brick-and-mortar stores & rip them into MP3s myself. However, the deal at eMusic seems to address all the issues I have with the others. Namely, crappy proprietary file types and crappy bitrates. eMusic features real MP3s and the bitrates are a healthy 192 kbps (variable bitrate). At 500,000 tracks, their catalog is a bit lacking but I imagine it will get larger with time. I’ve downloaded Hedwig & the Angry Inch Soundtrack, Old 97’s, and The Kinks for starters and it was very smooth sailing. Give them a try.
Hello again my dearest friends, hope all is well. What can I say? Nothing much has been happening with me lately, my social life has been pretty quiet for once. Today, will be the first time I go out since last Sunday and guess what? I have something to complain about. Yes, today is May 6 and yesterday was one of the most celebrated day in both Spanish and Non-Spanish culture. I don’t know why…I really don’t get it. Well I do, I just choose not to get it….
Cinco de Mayo. Sheeeze. Everytime you mention Cinco de Mayo, people immediately ask, “so where are you hanging out?, which bar are you going to? are you making it an all weekend thing?” Well, people that I know ask me that
.
The majority of the bars around here have a Mexican theme going in commemoration of Cinco de Mayo. Why? There’s no need. Seriously, Cinco de Mayo is not that important. I mean, Cinco de Mayo is not the day in which Mexican liberated themselves from 3 centuries Spanish rule. C’mon!! If you do a survey and ask people on which day Mexicans celebrate their independence, I’m pretty certain that the majority are not going to know, unless they are Mexican, in which case if they don’t know, that’s just sad. I personally don’t care either b/c I’m not Mexican, but I do know (just in case you’re wondering
)
Seriously, their fight for indepence lasted…I think it was 10 years. So shouldn’t we take that into consideration and celebrate September 16 rather than May 5th? Do we know exactly what took place on May 5th? Well in the Estado of Puebla, quite a few Mexicans fought against the French on May 5th and obviously won. Now should this be a reason for celebrating an event that didn’t even last a year contrary to their struggle for independence?
Ok.. ok.. I understand that the Mexicans not only fought against the French but also helped the Americans fight their war too.
Let’s not forget that in appreciation, Americans are now making it even more difficult for Mexicans to cross the border and do what they do best…help the American economy by working in the fields b/c we Americans are too proud to do so. But that’s another subject. I’m not going to touch on the political aspect of this. This is just a simple , shallow complaint.
So, should this be an American Holiday? Hell NO! Should this be a Mexican holiday? We’ll leave it to the Mexicans in Mexico; not here. C’mon, I understand the significance of this day for the Pueblanos and I’m not too sure if the Chiapanesco in Chiapa Mexico or the Guadaralejos in Guadarajala, Mexico make it such a big deal.
Well there’s only two ways for me to find out a) by asking all the mexicans I know or b) visiting several states in Mexico on this date, right?
But to be honest, what bothers me is not so much the aforementioned (pay attention b/c this is the root of my complain), but the fact that all the bars I had intentions of visiting tonight which serves finger food, have a Mexican theme and I’m not a fan of Mexican food, yuk!… that’s my pet-peeve. I’ve been to Mexico and I was not happy with the fact that if I didn’t make a point of asking not to put chile, they put chile in my beer.
But it didn’t end there, noooo!! It was not only my beer, it was also oranges, any food, fruits, desert.. arrg!.. no wonder I lost close to 10 lbs during my stay… . what’s up with that?… seriously!!…
.. ok.. got to go.. I have work to do… talk to you guys soon.. take care… Enjoy your cinco, seis, siete, ocho de Mayo.. It’s all the same…
This story is about the new “Freedom Tower” they’re going to build in NYC. Sheeesh, that name!
Well, it was only a matter of time before someone had a legitimate “severed finger” claim. It may as well be us.
This story tells of a new way to send man to Mars.
Oh, come on now. What the hell?
I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It was funny, it remained surprisingly faithful to the book (almost too faithful, as non-fans will likely be overwhelmed), and the effects were extraordinary. I guessed that HGG would do $13 million on opening weekend. Instead, it did a very impressive $21 million and it seems to be doing well. I’ve decided to begin re-reading that book, along with American Psycho and High Fidelity.
