Legalese

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on September 26th, 2002

Remember the legal problem with one of the tracks? Well, after listening to TV Time, the track in question, Discmakers.com stopped what they were doing and said they couldn’t continue unless the track was re-done. So I re-did it and sent another master. This makes 10 attempts; 10 mastering sessions before the final.

TV Time was simply a recording of me changing channels on the television. It ran for about a minute. Each channel was audible for about one second. The issue was that some of the audio on the channels might have been recognized as copywritten material unless it was edited further to conceal the identity of the personality or celebrity. It was real close, Discmakers said, but it may have brought a lawsuit. What I did was add another layer of sound effects and cut the channels even more. Now, the track is much more interesting, in my opinion.

So the short of it is that we’re back on schedule. The booklet proof should arrive tomorrow for me to approve and copies are being pressed for release. Then I’m off to Schoolkids Records in Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill to distribute the thing.

The Sopranos and Photo Shoot

Posted by Christopher Van Epps on September 4th, 2002

Well, now that I’m in the habit of making these entries, would you believe it’s difficult to stop? I would. Anyway, the mastering is going well. It’s much easier than last time on “Cruel & Unusual.”

I’m heading up to Baltimore next weekend to take pictures for the cover. No food for me until then. Another big news item: The Sopranos start their 4th season on September 15th. I don’t know about you but I’m hooked like a big, dumb marlin!
